The new focus: syringe technology

The 1980s were transformative. Vetter zeroed in on prefilled syringe technology, deepening its expertise and creating cutting-edge innovations that continue to improve countless lives.

In 1981, Vetter took the groundbreaking step of focusing exclusively on prefilled syringe technology. The company discontinued the production of contact lens fluids and halted the contract manufacturing of conventional dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, and powders. It concentrated instead on developing and growing its sterile technology.

After over ten years of developing sterile technology, we are about to launch our biggest project yet, and one that looks far into the future: the Vetter Lyo-Ject®. That’s the term for the prefilled syringe technology in which the active ingredients for injection are freeze-dried inside the syringe itself. It’s a global innovation developed by our company.

The next world premiere: Vetter Lyo-Ject®

1990 was a significant year for Vetter. The company took a major step forward by rolling out its fully automated production line and launching the Lyo-Ject® double-chamber prefilled syringe, an innovation that made it possible to administer medication more safely and efficiently.
Following the introduction of its Lyo-Ject® syringes, the company grew rapidly. Vetter employed 260 people in 1990. By 1996, that number had grown to 560, and by the beginning of 1999, it had grown to over 800. Today, over 7,000 people work for Vetter.
