“When my father Helmut Vetter leased the Marien Pharmacy in Ravensburg in 1950, he could not have known that he had laid the foundation for a global company.", remembers Udo J. Vetter, Chairman of the Advisory Board and member of the founding family.
When you accompany us on the journey through Vetter’s history, you will find that people have always been at the heart of our work. Medicines that are produced at Vetter help patients all over the world. This was true when we developed the Ullus® capsules at the Marien-Apotheke pharmacy and when the company entered contract manufacturing. And it is still true today with the aseptic production of prefilled syringes and other injection systems.
Vetter has remained a family-owned business. We are deeply rooted in Ravensburg and the Bodensee-Upper Swabia region. Sustainability and consistency have underpinned everything we’ve undertaken since our company was founded. We are mindful of our corporate responsibility, which is why our commitment does not end at our own backyard. As the history of Vetter illustrates, this is beneficial not only to the region, but also to us as a company.

1954
Although founder Helmut Vetter took great care in managing the pharmacy, it never truly fulfilled him. In 1954, next to the usual pharmacy business, he developed the stomach medicine Ullus®, which was even exported to the United States. The advantage of its wafer capsules was that it was a tasteless form of gastrointestinal drug delivery. They were filled by hand using a simple piece of equipment and packaged in round plastic containers of 42 capsules each. The work was done in a back room of the pharmacy by two to four employees, which were only women at that time.
This period marked an important milestone in the company's history. To keep up with demand, the company moved to larger premises, acquired the current Vetter pharmacy at Marienplatz, and began producing additional medicinal products, special teas, and a teething gel.
